Obituary of Mildred Baehr

Mildred Megrue Baehr, age 103, of New Canaan, CT. died Saturday, May 8, 2013 at Norwalk Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Brooklyn, New York, October 24, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mabel Marker. Mildred was predeceased by her husbands, Enoch G. Megrue and Robert S. Baehr. Mildred moved to New Canaan in 1948 with her husband, Enoch G. Megrue and sons, George and John. She was a volunteer for and supporter of many New Canaan Charitable Organizations. She provided funds to the New Canaan Historical Society for the purchase of the Hancock-Silliman House and to Saint Luke's School for the acquistion of 19 acres of real estate. In addition, she was an original contributor to the "Shoeshine Boys" which later became Americares. Travelling with several missionary groups and as a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stamford, she was always interested in helping the needy. Mildred is survived by her two sons, George H. Megrue and wife, Suzanne J. Megrue of New Canaan, CT.; John F. Megrue and wife, Cece of Dataw Island, South Carolina and his former wife, S. Brooke Megrue of Rowayton, CT.; and a stepdaughter Adele Baehr Sullivan of Paoli, PA. She has eight grandchildren (all graduates of New Canaan High School). They are: Melanie Berman and husband Chuck of New Canaan, CT.; John F. Megrue Jr. and wife Lizanne of Wilson's Point, Norwalk, CT.; George R. Megrue and wife Kathleen of Stratford, CT.; Katherine D. Smith and husband Allen of Bernardsville, N.J.; Jeffrey G. Megrue and wife Karen of McLean, VA.; Christine Angelakis and husband Michael of Gladwyne, PA.; Karen L. Feringa and husband David of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and Kevin S. Megrue (deceased) of Newport, R.I. In addition, she is survived by 24 great grandchildren. There will be a private family service at Hoyt Funeral Home and Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
