Mabel Foster Evans, age 97, a New Canaan resident for over 70 years died Monday, March 9, 2009 in Greenwich, CT. Born in Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia April 3,1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nannie Venable Hancock. She was the wife of the late Thomas Evans who died in 1991. Mabel was a self-employed Health Aid. Survivors include her son; James Ted Foster and his wife Elaine of New Canaan. Her daughter; Joyce Peagler Of Hartsdale, NY; 6 grand-children, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was pre-deceased by three brothers and four sisters Mabel was a lifelong member of the New Canaan Chapter of the NAACP, had been on the New Canaan Interfaith Committee, and was a devoted member of the Community Baptist Church in New Canaan where she held various positions over the years. A funeral service will be held on Saturday. March 14, 2009 at 10:30 in the Community Baptist Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday morning one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
