Obituary of Genevieve DiGangi
Genevieve F. DiGangi, 92, a resident of Darien, passed away on February 24, 2009. She was born October 10, 1916 to August and Virginia (LaFave) Colignon in Oconto, Wisconsin. She was the wife of Frank E. DiGangi for 63 years.
Genevieve attended parochial schools in Racine, Wisconsin and graduated from St. Teresa’s School of Nursing in Waukegan, Illinois. While a surgical nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospitals, she met her husband Frank DiGangi at a university football game. The couple married June 27, 1946 in Milwaukee on the Marquette University campus. They resided in Minneapolis and St. Paul for 61 years.
In addition to her husband, Genevieve is survived by her daughters Ellen (Philo) Hall of Northfield, Vermont, and Janet (Dale) Greenwood of Stamford, Connecticut; grandchildren Philo (Elizabeth) Hall of Washington, DC, Nathan (Monena) Hall of Denton, Texas, Kirsten Hall of Washington, DC, Erin and Kira Greenwood of Stamford; one great-grandchild, Phoebe Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and three sisters, Evelyn (Colignon) Powers, Anthony Colignon, Muriel (Colignon) Perkins, and Alvira Colignon, all of Racine, Wisconsin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28th at 1:30 p.m., St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Rd., Darien. Interment will be private.
