Obituary of Joan Tighe
Joan Madden Tighe, age 81, of Wilton, formerly of Palm Beach, Florida, died August 27 in Norwalk, Connecticut. Born April 15, 1931, in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mae Kelly and Louis Jay Madden. Joan was the wife of the late John Francis Tighe.
Joan was graduated from Fordham University with a B.S. degree. Joan and John were co-chairs of the Greater Palm Beach Symphony and promoted musical education in the greater Palm Beach community. She was a member of the Order of Malta Auxiliary.
Joan was a devoted wife and mother. She was a deeply spiritual woman and was said to be a “powerhouse of prayer.” She demonstrated exemplary grace and courage through a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease and her radiant smile never diminished as her illness progressed.
She is survived by her daughter, Mae Kelly Tighe, M.D. and her husband Thomas James Bronner and their children Erin and Grace Bronner of Wilton, CT, her son, John Francis Tighe, Jr., M.D. and his wife Gina and their children Nicholas and Samantha Tighe all of Cornwall, NY and her brother, William Madden of Vista, CA. She is predeceased by brothers Harold Madden and Thomas Madden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 1 at St. Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Friday, August 31, at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan from 4 to 8 PM . Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:30 PM.
