Obituary of Betty Roth

Betty Louise Roth, age 81, a resident of New Canaan for over 35 years died Friday, August 3, 2012 in Norwalk Hospital. Born November 12, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Roxanna Parrish Urffer. Betty met her husband, William C. Roth when they both attended Davis and Elkins College where she was a member of Chi Omega. Betty and Bill were married for sixty one years. In addition to her husband Betty is survived by her son, Douglas Stuart Roth, his wife Lu-Ann and their son William C. Roth IV of Bethel, CT, her two sisters, Margaret J. Africa of Ardmore, PA and Joanne Tilley of Marietta, GA. Betty was predeceased by her son, William C. “Chip” Roth III who died in 1976 after a brief illness while attending Boston College. As the daughter of a regional BSA executive Betty had a well traveled youth. In her senior year at Radnor High School (then Wayne, PA) Betty played center forward on the field hockey team that won the championship that year. As a wife and mother of two sons Betty provided the love and stabilizing influence the family needed as they moved from the Philadelphia suburbs to Westport, CT, Evergreen, CO and then New Canaan. A true patriot she was a frequent contributor to causes honoring our national heritage as well as cancer research, animal welfare and nature. Funeral Services and Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Davis and Elkins College, 100 Campus Drive, Elkins, WV, 26241 or the Nature Conservancy.
