Obituary of Adolfo Tomaselli

Adolfo (“Ad”) Joseph Tomaselli, age 86 died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stamford October 29, 1925, having come to New Canaan at a very young age, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Grazia Maria Pugliese Tomaselli. He was the husband of Helen Louise Collins Tomaselli. Ad was a 1943 graduate of New Canaan High School. He was a WWII veteran, having served on the USS Chase (DE-158) in the European, Mediterranean, and Pacific Theaters. His ship was off the shores of Normandy on June 6, 1944 and was later hit and disabled by a Kamikaze off Okinawa in 1945. After his naval discharge in April, 1946 he graduated from Merrill Business School and began his accounting career as office manager of various automobile agencies. He had his own accounting practice in New Canaan for over 60 years. Ad was a three sports star at New Canaan High School, went on to play semi-pro football and baseball and was admitted into the New Canaan Sports Hall of Fame in the year 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rotary International, having been a past president of the New Canaan Rotary Club and co-founder of the New Canaan Rotary Lobster Fest. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Helen Collins Tomaselli and his daughters Linda Sue Tomaselli Dorflinger and her husband Christian of Franklin, Ma., Anita Louise Tomaselli Satti and her husband Bob of Milford, Ct, and Kathryn Collins Tomaselli Walker and her husband Adam of Fairfax, Va. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Andrea Lauren and Christian Dorflinger, III, C. Robert Satti, III, Christopher Collins Satti, Maura Griffin Satti, Hunter Randolph Walker and Kelly Kathryn Walker, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Joseph F. Tomaselli and Lawrence F. Tomaselli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 10, at St. Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT at 11:00AM. Internment with full military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM at the Hoyt Funeral Home 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.
