Sara Hough O'Grady Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sara Hough O’Grady, who left us on May 20, 2026. Born on July 15, 1941 in Pottsville, PA, Sara lived a life marked by strength, compassion, and curiosity. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Sara grew up in Media PA and later graduated from Baldwin Wallace University, where she met her husband James Wallace O’Grady. She had two children, Kristin O’Grady Evans, and lost her son, James Andrew O’Grady on 9/11.

She endured the heartbreaking loss of her son in the September 11, 2001 attacks, carrying his memory with love and courage throughout the rest of her life. Despite profound grief, she continued to embrace life with grace, finding comfort in family, friendships, and her passion for travel.

She enjoyed traveling all over the world and loved discovering new places, meeting people, and collecting stories from her journeys.

Sara is survived by her daughter Kristin O’Grady Evans, her brother John “Buzz” Jones, and by her grandchildren, Robert, Abigail, and Katherine Evans.

She was a supporter of the Tunnel to Towers and Wounded Warrior Foundations, and in lieu of flowers, please make a donation.

The O’Grady family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street New Canaan CT 06840.
