Sallyann Henry
August 1, 1935 – January 26, 2026
Dr. Sallyann Henry was one remarkable woman. Born in New Rochelle, NY, she was raised in Darien, CT beside her two older sisters, Maryann & Bettyann. In a time when women were encouraged by society to pursue marriage and family life, Sallyann set out to follow her true ambitions, her dreams and her goals. It was very rare for women to hold advanced degrees and pursue careers. Sallyann began her higher education graduating from Denison University and went on to earn a Masters Degree and a PhD from Columbia University. With her educational success and intelligence, her journey in the business world was set to begin. The Psychological Corporation is where the stepping stones to her career ambitions began. Throughout her entire career, Sallyann shattered glass ceilings by doing incredible work with clients, authoring professional journal articles, leading workshops and earning the respect of the credentialing industry, which was a male dominated field at the time. Being the true trailblazer and strong business woman that she was, she made the move to start her own company. In 1983 Professional Testing Corporation (PTC) was brought to life through parent company ORC. Under her leadership, PTC became independent and a global leader in testing and assessment services. Her commitment to her company, profession and her employees was steadfast and sincere. She traveled for weeks at a time all over the world to support her passion and continue to strengthen and grow her company.
Sallyann was a very generous woman with a nurturing spirit and a kindness that met no match. She entered every work day in her signature tailored business suit ready to take it all on. She focused on bringing positivity and energy to her days in the office or the weeks that she would travel. Sallyann led by example as she set the path for her employees to all be successful and contribute to the PTC – the company motto “Putting People First” was a true sentiment to the atmosphere that she created in her office environment.
Her birth month of August, being a Leo, is most fitting for her spirit animal was the Lion. Her collection of lions followed her in all her areas of life. In all shapes, forms, styles, colors, stuffed, glass, ceramic…. she wore them, she had her homes decorated them and of course her office was set up with many lion accents. Her true spirit was represented in all areas of her life. Just like the lion, she embodied strength, confidence and bravery. Along with a sincere commitment to her goals and the leadership that she provided to those in her path who shared in her journey. There was no task too small. She was a true trailblazer and paved the way for so many to follow in her footsteps. PTC was her extended family. She cared for them all just as she cared for her family.
On a personal note, Sallyann called New York City home for well over 60 years before moving to Brightview in Norwalk about 4 years ago. She was a tried-and-true New Yorker and there was just no other New York Yankee fan like Sallyann Henry!! There were many a ballgame attended, never a hotdog not thoroughly enjoyed, always a scheduled game watched on TV or listened to on the radio, always an article to be read thoroughly on her most passionate topic. She knew all the stats, players, scores, standings – if it was New York Yankee information, she knew it. Sallyann was also a die-hard New York Knickerbockers, New York Rangers and New York Jets fan and let it also not be forgotten that she loved UConn Women’s Basketball. She loved and enjoyed all that New York had to offer. She shared it with those she loved whenever she could. She enjoyed golfing, traveling for pleasure, weekend visits to her home in Lakeville, CT and spending time with family. Her caring and generous nature was appreciated by all.
Sallyann was predeceased by her father, Harrison Sherwin Henry and her beloved mother, Evelyn Henry and her two sisters, Maryann von Dwingelo, and Bettyann Murphy, previously from New Canaan. Her 7 nieces and nephews and 14 grand nieces and nephews along with many others, will miss her dearly. Her impact on those she loved will remain with them forever.
The family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan CT 06840.
