Margaret “Peggy” Ann Quinlan Sullivan, a resident of Wilton for more than 40 years and formerly of Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 19, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on January 7, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Helen and Francis Quinlan. She was affectionately called Penny Q by her father. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry Sullivan; her son, Thomas; and her two brothers, Robert and Frank.
Peggy is survived by her children: Mark (Elaine), Daniel (Pam), Mara (Ben), and Michael (Kelly); and her late son Thomas’ former wife, Sarah. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren: Jay (Anne), Kelly, Kaitlyn (fiancé Nick), Maggie, Erin (Jackson), Reilly, Matthew, Kathleen, Annalise, Sean, William, Kaitlyn, Kerry, Camie (Bobby), Lexie (Ryan), and Kurt. Peggy was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Edward, Eleanor and Evelyn.
Peggy lived each day to the fullest, as a quiet constant strength to all around her, after meeting Jerry as a counselor at her summer camp, she graduated from Duquesne University in three years to start her life with Jerry. Her greatest joy was her family and friends and the many moments shared with them. She took immense pride and pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always cheering them on. She loved spending summers at Wrightsville Beach with her family and traveling abroad with the people she loved.
Peggy dedicated her life to helping others, with time spent working at Minks to Sinks since 1981 and serving as the president of the Saint Andrews Women’s Club while she was in Columbus. Her time in Columbus was enriched by lifelong family friends, and it was there that her love for the Ohio State Buckeyes began. Peggy was a teacher and often shared stories with her family of the joy she had in her early career before becoming a mother.
Peggy was an excellent cook and hosted many special events and celebrations at her home: birthday parties, graduations, christenings and weddings were joyously celebrated. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving which always involved setting up beautifully laid tables for her family and friends. Tiny chocolate turkeys were always placed at each setting at the “kids table”. She shared her many recipes, writing them out by hand and they will be especially treasured.
