Leonard V. Ceccacci Obituary

Leonard V. Ceccacci, known to many as either Len, Lenny, or Dino, was a New Canaan, CT, resident for the last 10 years.  He passed away at home peacefully on September 26, 2025 after 2.5 years in hospice.  He received wonderful care from his loving wife of 53 years, Nina (Consoli) Ceccacci, and his excellent hospice nurse, Teresa.

Len was born in Guarcino, Italy, to Gregorio Gori and Luigia Santurri in 1935.  He immigrated to the U.S. in 1947 where he was adopted by his aunt, Rosaria Gori, and her husband, Camillo (Frank) Ceccacci of Queens, NY.  Len graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1954 and Manhattan College in 1966 with a degree in math.  Although he held many jobs in his working career, his most interesting job was at Grumman in Bethpage, NY, where he was a member of the team that built the lander portion of the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) that remained on the moon for the Apollo 11 mission.

Len and Nina were married in 1972 and moved to Somers, NY, in 1979 with their two children Elizabeth (Orelup) and Gregory.  Len was a volunteer soccer coach, founder of the Somers indoor soccer league, long-time AYSO soccer commissioner for Somers, Somers Ballet School videographer, and eventually a member of the Somers Volunteer Fire Department after he retired.  He loved being a member of the fire police directing traffic around accidents and fire calls.  If it glowed, reflected, or lit up, he owned it.  He also served five years as a town-elected fire commissioner beginning in 2000.

Len is pre-deceased by two of his brothers, Pierino and Franco Gori.  He is survived by his wife, Nina, brother, Maurizio Gori, children Elizabeth (Christopher) and Gregory (Joan), and grandchildren Timothy, Samantha, and Alessandro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Somers Fire Department (https://www.somersvfd.com/) or a local firehouse of choice.

The family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan CT 06840.  For online condolences please visit www.hoytfuneralhome.com
