Carol Ann Barrato Obituary

Carol Ann (Piccolo) Barrato

December 29, 1942 – September 6, 2025

Carol Ann (Piccolo) Barrato, 82, of Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 29, 1942, in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of the late Americo J. Piccolo and Jean (Baldasare) Piccolo. She was baptized at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady, where her Catholic faith first took root, a faith that remained central to her entire life.

Carol graduated from Linton High School in 1960 and went on to complete her nursing degree at Albany Medical Center School of Nursing in 1963. She dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a registered nurse, embodying the motto that appeared under her yearbook portrait: “A rational nature admits of nothing but what is serviceable to the rest of mankind.”

She was formerly married to Joseph Barrato (1964), with whom she raised five children: Joseph Barrato (Heather), Chris Barrato (Tollie), Todd Barrato (Cristiana), Lauren Martino (Taylor), and Greg Barrato (Nicole). She is also survived by her brother, Ronald Piccolo (Sandy), and twelve beloved grandchildren: Isabella, Ashley, Francesca, Sophia, Charlotte, Gianmarco, Luca, Enzo, Siena, Cole, Hudson, and Ella, who brought her immense joy. She was predeceased by her brother, Americo (Amer) Piccolo.

Beyond her career, Carol was an accomplished cook, a devoted gardener, and passionate about tennis. She loved hiking, was an avid antique hunter, an early adopter of yoga and stretching exercises, and found joy in exploring museums and historic sites, especially lighthouses and covered bridges. She was known for filling her home with warmth, hospitality, and beauty, whether through her table, her garden, or the experiences she shared with those she loved.

Carol will be remembered for her compassion, her devotion to family, her faith, her deep devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary, and her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Carol passed from this life between the radiant sunset of red and orange and the rising of the full moon, on a first Saturday, a day the Church dedicates to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. For someone who lived with such deep devotion to Our Lady, this timing is a tender sign of grace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m. There will be no wake, and her burial will be a private family gathering.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
