Eric Shaw Obituary

In Loving Memory of Eric Shaw

Eric Shaw, affectionately known as “Ericsito” to his family, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2025, while cycling, an activity he so cherished. A devoted father and loving husband, barely 62 years old, his vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to family will forever inspire those who knew him.

Eric was born on February 12, 1963, in Mount Vernon, New York, in a loving family with his father, Jitendra, his mother, LaRue and his sister, Jessica. Growing up in Hicksville N.Y., he forged lifelong friendships that remained dear to him. Eric’s companionship and kindness spread across a diverse circle of friends. He was dedicated to supporting his friends as he cared for them so deeply. Eric is survived by his loving wife, Giuliana Hoyos; his children, Alessandra and Zachary; his mother, LaRue Shah; and his sister, Jessica Shah.

Eric was a proud graduate, receiving a BBA in Marketing at SUNY Old Westbury, and an MBA at Baruch College. His professional journey was highlighted by remarkable achievements, including his positions as Claims Manager of North America Reinsurance at AXA XL, Regional Claims Customer Service Executive at Guy Carpenter Reinsurance, and Vice President of Casualty Claims at AIG Asia Pacific. He took particular pride in his role at AIG, based in Singapore, where he felt he had risen “from nowhere” to build an extraordinary career. Eric approached his work with dedication and passion, leaving a lasting impression on his colleagues.

Eric shared a beautiful 21-year marriage with Giuliana Hoyos, whom he met at AIG in 2003. Their relationship blossomed through his sweet, respectful nature and commitment to building a strong partnership, which became a cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised two incredibly strong and smart children, Alessandra and Zachary. Eric devoted himself to his family until the very end, moving back to the United States and building their dream home. He was immensely proud of this accomplishment and looking forward to this new chapter in his life with his family.

A fun-loving man, Eric always created good times with jokes and laughter. He was best known for requesting a “cuy face” in every photo opportunity, a playful expression that became a cherished tradition among his loved ones. Over time, Eric adopted this hilarious face, dutifully requesting group pictures with the “mascot of Peru.” Ericsito always made us laugh hysterically. His presence was always larger than life and brought wonderful cheer to all and always.

Singapore was Eric’s slice of heaven, where he and his family lived for over 15 years. As a member of the American Club in Singapore, he enjoyed his times with his fellow ex-pats. He valued love above all, often sharing that treating people well was the key to a meaningful life.

Eric’s passions included biking and staying active at the gym, pursuits that reflected his vibrant spirit. He wove his loved ones into his active lifestyle, sharing countless miles biking across New York City’s boroughs. With his sister Jessica, he rode through Huntington and Bayville, NY, laughing over childhood memories. In Singapore, he inspired his daughter Alessandra with daily walks along Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, catching up on her latest accomplishments and offering encouraging words. With his son Zachary, Eric spent hours biking around their neighborhood in Singapore. Their smiles and laughter echoing through the trails, shaping Zachary into the young man he is today.

Eric Shaw will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and brought an everlasting joy to all who knew him.
