Obituary of Wesson Anderson
Wesson Stephen Anderson
Passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2024, at 74 years of age. Born in Manhattan to Edmund and Gwendolyn (Seyburn) Anderson, Wesson grew up in Wilton, Connecticut. He attended St. Luke’s School in New Canaan and was a graduate of The Choate School and the University of Virginia.
Despite having taken a degree in Spanish, Wesson was immediately drawn to the culinary arts and their place in the hospitality industry. With managing the restaurant of the old Monticello Plaza Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia, Wesson began a forty-four year tour de force in the hospitality field as banquet manager, catering director and food and beverage director in properties as diverse as Loews Hotel properties in Washington D.C., New York City, Teaneck, NJ, and the Sandpiper Bay Resort in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Later Wesson shifted his talents to Club Management, working as General Manager for the Alpine Country Club in Alpine, NJ, and opening the Penn Club of New York as Director of Catering. Over his twenty-three years at the Penn Club, Wesson became actively involved with the Club Management Association of America, earning certification, serving the Board for many years as well as serving as New York Chapter President from 2010 to 2012. Countless clients benefited from his exceptional expertise in all that was needed to make an occasion memorable and special.
Wesson is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Maomi, daughter Gwendolyn and her partner Armando Garcia-Jacquier, new granddaughter Zoé, his sister Linda Rost and his nieces Jennifer Jacobs (William Ferranti), Hilary Jacobs, Peggy Rost (Matt Montross).
Wesson’s many family nicknames, Possum and Framby being two of the more printable, are a testament to the affection in which his family and close friends held him. Much of what he did both professionally and personally was accompanied by his quick sense of humor, an appreciation for showmanship as well as a personal generosity. Wesson will long be remembered for his ability to hold forth on topics ranging from the arts and sciences to current events, often over an excellent meal that he had himself prepared. Acquaintances of a certain age will recollect Wesson’s passion for disco dancing; this was in fact a small part of his greater interest in all things musical. He took pride in being a UVA Cavalier and was utterly devoted to the New York Yankees. Inherited from his mother was a great affection for four legged members of the animal kingdom, particularly dogs. Wesson was a Renaissance man who could fill a room with his presence and whose absence will be deeply felt.
A memorial service will be held on April 5th, 2025 at 10:30 AM, at St. Paul’s on the Green in Norwalk, CT, to celebrate Wesson’s life and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to ROAR (Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue) or St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Wesson’s honor.
