I am very saddened to hear about Gary's passing. I was watching a "Cold Fusion" discussion of the world economy when the name of an economist with a similar name jogged memories of his disc jockey days at WMCA. Yes, i was one of those high school kids who embraced and loved his broadcasting style. The recordings he played took a back seat to his often wacky and irreverent sense of humor, especially his "Wooly Burger" character. It is nice to know that he made use of his talents in Europe, then put them to work in the US. My deep condolences to his loved ones - he helped a lot of teenagers in the NY metro area momentarily escape some of the emotionally draining tragedies that beset our country during those years. BTW I loved how he made fun of his competitor Bruce Morrow on ABC. Sleep Well Gary...

Dear Frankie, Kristin, Christopher and Victoria,
We send you our deepest condolences for the death of Gary. Our families knew each other in New Canaan through East School before and after we moved to London in the 1980s and beyond. We are so very sad for all you are enduring now as a family.
May your precious memories of Gary as father and husband bring you comfort. Although we knew Gary for a short time, his obituary brought back so many of the interests and accomplishments we recall.
We send our love and warm wishes.

Sending my love and thoughts to Frankie and family. In life you meet people that have a resounding affect on you. Gary was one of those people. No matter how challenging life was he was always so positive , smiling and a joy to be around.
You will not be forgotten Gary .
Loving thoughts

I was just a fan, from his WMCA Good Guys days. As a young teenager I loved his energy, enjoyed his very dry humor, and found joy every night through his show. I know he considered his business career much more important than his DJ days. But decades later, I still think fondly of Gary and the Wooleyburger. And I've never forgotten the night I won a "Name it and Claim it," and talked to him on the air. - Dan Woog, Westport, CT

Uncle Gary; I have had the pleasure of being part of your extended family since 1995. Although I was not part of the family from birth, a marriage of families brought us together. I thank you for your kindness and hospitality on my recent trip. It is just so sad that we did not talk for longer. I would have loved to sit and talk again. I know your memory lives on in your childen and theirs alike. Will miss you. Tess X

I had the pleasure of serving with Gary on the Saga board of of directors. His constant smile, sharp wit, and clear thinking was always present. An especially warm memory was when we were in Portland for a meeting. We both had arrived early and went for a walk along the waterfront. Over an especially tasty lobster roll he regaled me with his fascination and love of unusual cars. Over the years I got to see (and even ride) in some of them.
We miss you, Gary!

I first met Gary when he was GM atKRIZ. He offered me a sales job to relocate from SanAntoino. While I didn’t accept the job we became fast friends. We both served as GM’s for Double Day. We remained friends beyond the Double Day times and he eventually championed me to the Wicks Group. He was always there for me and he was a friend that I could always count on for advice and counsel. He leaves behind a grand legacy. I am saddened by his passing. Rex Tackett
