Obituary of Martha Durey

In Loving Memory of Martha (Marti) Hosler Durey
1940-2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha (Marti) Hosler Durey, who left this world peacefully on February 1, 2025, at Norwalk Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John C. Durey, Jr.; her dear brother, Robert M. Hosler, Jr.; and her loving parents, Robert M. Hosler, Sr., MD and Eleanor (McCurdy) Hosler. Though she has departed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews, cherished friends, and her faithful furry companions, Coco and Chacha.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1940, Marti graduated from high school in 1958 before attending Mount Union College. There, she was a proud member of the Tri Delta sorority and earned her degree in sociology in 1962. She dedicated her life to helping others as a compassionate and devoted social worker, touching countless lives throughout her career.

Beyond her professional achievements, Marti was a vibrant and beloved presence in her community. She served as the president of the New Canaan Suburbanites, where she formed lifelong friendships and enriched the lives of many through her leadership and kindness. She was also an avid bridge player enjoying both the challenge and camaraderie of the game, making countless connections along the way.

Marti’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Marti’s life will be held at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT 06840 May 17 2025 from 11am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Connecticut Humane Society or an animal rescue organization of your choice.  A private burial will take place later at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.

Though she is gone, her spirit, kindness, and love will remain in our hearts forever.
