Joy Mulloy

Obituary of Joy Gautreaux Mulloy

Joy Gautreaux Mulloy died on November 29, 2018, in New Canaan, Connecticut. A Baton Rouge native, she attended St. Anthony School, graduated from LSU with high honors, and worked as an editor at the Baton Rouge Advocate in her twenties. She had many fond and funny memories of her time and colleagues at this newspaper. Shortly after marrying in Baton Rouge, she and her husband moved to Australia and later to Orinda, California, where they spent a happy, peaceful life raising their daughter and traveling the world. She volunteered for more than twenty years at the Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, California. Though her life was quiet in recent years, she was a woman of unforgettable poise, wit, and intellect. She will be profoundly missed.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Andrew Ault, of New Canaan, Connecticut, and several cousins in Louisiana and Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Warner Mulloy, of Orinda, California, her parents, Mae and Eddie Gautreaux of Baton Rouge, and her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and John Bueche, also of Baton Rouge.

There is no formal memorial service planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a place that was very dear to Mrs. Mulloy, the Friends of the Orinda Library. (http://friendsoftheorindalibrary.org)
